This tube is identical to the industry standard BA-2 except that it has an internal platinum shield coating which is internally connected to one side of the filament. The tube is ideal for use where the shielding effect of the coating is helpful, for instance in the presence of high intensity radio frequency fields or at high pressure where static charges can build up on glass. It can be used anywhere except with controllers which use electron bombardment outgassing, which will degrade the internal coating.

The tube has ¾" glass tubulation and is compatible with all commonly used controllers and cables. The tube can be used wherever the industry standard tube with a thoria-coated iridium filament is used. It is identical to Varian type 563 and can be used wherever GFV type BA-2 or Varian 571 is used. The internal shield in no way compromises operation or efficiency and will improve performance in some environments.
